Houseboat Permits are required for Voyageurs National Park
Park permits are required during your stay in Voyageur National Park. Please go to www.recreation.gov to get your permit. This needs to be printed and brought with you on your trip. Our dockhands will put them in the pocket protector sleeve on the houseboat for you when you arrive. For instructions, please click here.
A deposit is required to secure your reservation. This deposit will be returned to you at the end of your houseboat trip, after a full inspection of the boat and equipment. Gas charges and any miscellaneous charges will be deducted from it. (Does not apply to the Aurora). We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, cashier's checks, or personal checks for your reservation deposit. If paying by check, your deposit is due within 10 day, or your reservation will be cancelled. Deposits will be refunded only if a written request for cancellation is received at least 90 days prior to the boarding date of your reservation. A $175 processing fee will be charged on all refunds. No exceptions. The Aurora's are non-refundable.
Your payment is due when you arrive. When paying for you reservation, we will accept cashier's checks, travelers checks, cash, Visa, Discover, Mastercard, or American Express (no personal checks) in one transaction. 6.875% Minnesota state sales tax and a 3% lodging tax will be added.
Your houseboat will be ready between noon and 2 p.m. No houseboat will be allowed to leave the dock after 5 p.m.
Check out at the office includes payment for houseboat rental, miscellaneous rental, and optional hull insurance. You will sign a bare-boat charter agreement that puts the responsibility of the boat in your hands, and be given a complete set of navigational maps. For those with a dog, you will go through a pet agreement form. The form goes over the cost of any damages (if they should happen) by your pet and that you will be held responsible for those charges.
Once you have unpacked and parked your vehicle in our lighted lot, a spot guide will give you a thorough orientation of the boat and its operations. They will guide you out on the lake approximately 4 miles, allowing you to drive the houseboat, read the navigational maps and buoys, and just feel comfortable with the boat - so you can relax and enjoy the beauty of Rainy Lake.
The houseboat is required to be back by 9 a.m. on the day of your return.
When coming back to Northernaire, radio us when reaching Marker #10 and a guide will come out to your boat and drive it back to the dock, taking away all worries.
